The Assistive Technology Education Network of Florida (ATEN) provides information, awareness and training for students, family members, teachers, and other professionals. ATEN employs a highly specialized staff consisting of regional assistive technology specialists, seating and positioning specialists, and support staff. Services to students in Florida ages 3-22 are free of charge and include:

  • Technical assistance and training
    Information and referral
    Resource/Demonstration Lab
    Assistive Technology (AT) awareness
    Short-term loan of assistive devices
    Print Resources
    Device Operation Training

Resource Center and Demonstration Lab:

Assistive Technology Educational Network of Florida Region 4 Demonstration Lab The Regional Demonstration Lab in Tampa houses an array of assistive technology equipment including: voice and print output devices, mobility equipment, adaptations for computers, low-technology training materials, hearing and vision equipment, environmental controls, adaptive toys, equipment and specialized accommodation, and evaluation kits. The Lab, open for use by all Florida residents, provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience with assistive technology. Four additional Regional Resource Labs are located throughout the state, including: Tallahassee, Palatka, Daytona, and Ft. Lauderdale. The main ATEN Resource Lab is housed at the statewide loan library in Sanford, Florida.

Loan Library:

Assistive technology (AT) equipment is available for short-term loan to designated Local Assistive Technology Specialists (LATS) from each school district. Equipment borrowed from our statewide loan library in Sanford, Florida is intended for student assessment and trial use in all settings (school, home, community) for the duration of the loan. Equipment is packaged into kits including all necessary accessories. Please check with the LATS in you school district for procedures on how to access these sentences.

    Hands-on use of state-of-the-art assistive technology and augmentative communication
    Devices and systems
    An 800 number to provide easy access by all Florida residents
    Current and emerging information concerning Assistive Technology

We offer:

  • Workshops Training
    Equipment and system demonstration and preview by our staff and (when applicable) by outside vendors

ATEN Region 4 Training Lab:
