Tentative Dates and Topics for the 32nd Annual Seminar for Teachers, Parents, Agency Personnel, and Other Involved in the Education of Students Who are Visually Impaired.

December 1-2, 2011, Daytona, MATH STRATEGIES FOR VISUALLY IMPAIRED:
“I’m Not the Math Teacher!! Oh, But You Are the ECC—Nemeth Code, Tactile Graphics, Assistive Technology, Math Concepts, Manipulatives, Abacus, and Access to Math—Teacher!!”

Derrick Smith, project leader for the APH Math Builders Series and a representative from Wolf Products (Math Windows) will provide training on using these tools for teaching math concepts. Click this link for information and/or to register.

April 3-4, 2012, Tampa, READING STRATEGIES FOR VISUALLY IMPAIRED:
“I’m Not the Reading Teacher!!  Oh, But You Are the ECC—Braille, Tactile Graphics, AT, Concepts, and Access to Reading—Teacher!!”

Samantha Jaksec will provide training related to current intensive reading programs and strategies for struggling readers, and facilitate workgroup activities to modify or design accommodations of those strategies for students who are visually impaired who may be placed in intensive reading programs or classes due to low FCAT reading scores. QPVI – BUILDING LOCAL CAPACITY

Supporting Florida’s District Programs for the Visually Impaired

Lake Placid, Florida

This indepth training is offered to program supervisors and teachers of the visually imparied from Florida public school districts. Designed to provide tools and techniques to align districts with IDEA and the Florida State Board Rule. QPVI is offered in two-day workshops over three sessions. Each participant will receive approximately $800.00 worth of materals and assessment kits. Click here for more information.
