Even though the Florida Department of Education has directed that all schools remain closed for the remainder of the school year, due to the coronavirus, your FIMC-VI staff is working to provide materials and support as needed.  For students that are registered with FIMC-VI, authorized teachers can order textbooks using our online ordering system and teachers and family members can request materials from our Loan Library.  Since we will be in the office on a limited basis, please connect with us via email.

If you need assistance or would like to set up a meeting with one of our staff, please use this form. FIMC-VI has created a new resource site for teachers of the visually impaired and orientation and mobility instructors serving students in Florida’s schools and agencies.  If you have not received an invitation to this Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) site, contact Liz Anderson. eanderson@FIMCVI.org

We understand that there may be some situations where it is not possible to return books until next school year.  However, we need teachers to make every effort to get books and materials back from students, so we can distribute these materials to other students by August 2020.  We are aware that some districts are creating plans for how all students will return materials to schools (i.e. print textbooks, technology, band/athletic equipment, etc).  There may be a way to have your students participate in that same process, or if possible you can even ask students to send textbooks to us directly via Free Matter for the Blind (to 4210 W Bay Villa Ave, Tampa, FL 33611). ).  When shipping textbooks to FIMC-VI, please write the following with the shipping address: “Attn: Denise/Shipping – Textbooks”.  To return loan library materials, contact Colleen Mulcahey for directions.

FIMC-VI is now providing “Brainstorming at the Virtual Water Cooler” meetings for Florida TVIs and O&M instructors via Zoom.  The first session took place April 14, 2020, and we discussed FIMC-VI updates, the new Canvas resource site for teachers, and what is working for teachers in providing distance learning.  Stay tuned for the next meeting!
