Description

Sensing and Learning Guidebook, Assessment Forms, and Routines by Millie Smith and Stacey Chambers is an updated and expanded resource, thoughtfully adapted from the original Sensory and Learning Kit (SLK). This guidebook reflects the authors’ responses to real-world questions and challenges shared by Teachers of Students with Visual Impairments (TSVIs), making it highly relevant and practical for today’s educational settings.

The research-based strategies in this book equip TSVIs with effective tools to conduct sensory efficiency and learning media assessments, address IEP components such as instructional settings, accommodations, and goals, and deliver targeted, high-impact instruction through a collaborative consultation model.

This PLC & Book Study is designed to actively support you as you explore the guidebook and apply its content to your daily practice. You will receive access to a Moodle course that houses all materials and assignments aligned with the book. Each week, you’ll engage with selected chapters and complete meaningful activities tied directly to the book’s assessment tools, forms, and instructional routines—helping you strengthen your ability to evaluate sensory learning needs, make informed educational decisions, and confidently support students who are blind or visually impaired with significant additional disabilities.
